GivePower solar powering a community in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria

Transforming Puerto Rico: GivePower and Soligo's Lifesaving Solar Solutions

September 02, 20244 min read

In the wake of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico faced one of the most severe humanitarian crises in its history. The storm left the island's power grid in ruins, cutting off electricity and clean water to millions of residents.

In response to this devastation, GivePower, along with its dedicated partners, quickly mobilized to provide immediate relief through solar energy solutions. These efforts have been crucial in restoring vital services and offering hope to communities that were left in darkness. At Soligo, we are proud to support GivePower's mission, contributing to the ongoing recovery and transformation of Puerto Rico.

The Immediate Response: Bringing Light to Darkness

Restoring Critical Communication Systems

After Hurricane Maria, one of the most urgent needs in Puerto Rico was to restore communication systems for emergency responders. Fire stations and emergency services across the island were left without power, severely hampering rescue efforts and the coordination of relief. GivePower stepped in to provide solar-powered solutions that restored electricity to these critical facilities, enabling them to communicate effectively and respond to emergencies.

Providing Clean Drinking Water

Access to clean drinking water became another immediate concern following the hurricane. With the island’s infrastructure in shambles, thousands of residents were left without safe water. GivePower provided water filters and solar-powered solutions to ensure that these communities had access to clean, drinkable water. These efforts were not only lifesaving but also instrumental in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the storm.

On-the-Ground Support: Volunteers Making a Difference

The success of these efforts would not have been possible without the tireless work of volunteers like Leilani Münter, who contributed on the ground in Puerto Rico. Her dedication, along with that of many others, was crucial in delivering these essential services to the communities that needed them most. The work done by these volunteers, in partnership with GivePower, exemplifies the power of collective action in times of crisis.

Ongoing Efforts: A Commitment to Puerto Rico’s Future

While the immediate response to Hurricane Maria was vital, the work in Puerto Rico is far from over. GivePower’s ongoing efforts continue to focus on providing sustainable energy solutions that will help the island rebuild stronger and more resilient than before. The installation of solar energy systems in schools, health clinics, and community centers is creating long-term benefits, offering a reliable source of power and helping to restore a sense of normalcy to everyday life.

How Soligo Supports GivePower's Mission

Our Partnership with GivePower

At Soligo, we believe in the transformative power of solar energy, not only for our customers but also for communities around the world. That’s why we have partnered with GivePower, donating $40 from every solar installation we complete to support their critical work. These donations help fund projects like those in Puerto Rico, ensuring that more communities can access the clean water and electricity they need to thrive.

Making a Tangible Impact

So far, Soligo has donated over $2,520 to GivePower, helping to provide 126 people with clean water, electricity, and other essential services for the next 20 years. But our commitment doesn’t stop there. We have set a goal to raise $100,000, which will allow us to participate in our own Soligo Trek—a mission where we will visit a third-world village and help build a solar-powered water desalination system. This project will bring clean water and electricity to a community that has never had access to these basic necessities.

Supporting Soligo means supporting GivePower’s mission to bring clean water and solar energy to those who need it most. Here’s how you can make a global impact from your roof:

  • Choose Soligo for Your Solar Installation: Every time you install solar panels with Soligo, $40 goes directly to GivePower to fund projects that transform lives around the world.

  • Spread the Word: Share the mission of GivePower and Soligo’s commitment to global impact with your friends, family, and community. The more people who know about this partnership, the greater the impact we can make.

  • Donate Directly to GivePower: If you’re inspired by the work GivePower is doing, consider making a direct donation to support our ongoing efforts.

The work being done by GivePower in Puerto Rico is a testament to the power of renewable energy to transform lives in times of crisis. At Soligo, we are honored to support this mission through our ongoing donations, helping to bring clean water and electricity to communities in need.

Together, we can continue to make a difference—one solar panel, one roof, and one village at a time. Join us in our journey to reach our $100,000 donation goal and bring sustainable solutions to those who need them most.
